beccs - 'stay moist'

On her newest EP, stay moist, emerging indie pop cool girl beccs no longerwants to be a sad girl. With a title inspired by her frequent crying episodes during thepandemic, she is ready to wipe her tears away and focus on pure, level-headedpoptimism.

The New York City-based artist has never been one to shy away from mentalhealth, and stay moist doesn’t hold anything back either. She treats her soft, airymelodies as her personal journal, vowing to break the chains of unhealthy past habits.

Lark - "All I Want is You"

On “All I Want is You,” Lark sets off on a long-awaited, carefree joyride with her lover.

The Australian indie-pop artist has made her mark in her own country and Europe — her first single, “Unicorn,” earned the #1 spot on the Euro Indie Music Chart in 2023. She’s gone on to release a handful of Europop-inspired tracks and her latest, “All I Want is You,” sees the singer at her most upbeat and dancefloor-ready.

“The song is about missing someone so much and that sense of urgency to finally be

“A Clear and Sound Miracle” - The Wave

Following a fire that left Rockaway’s only hospital engulfed in smoke on Sept. 10, 2021, St. John’s Episcopal Hospital finally cut the ribbon on its brand new, state-of-the-art Medical Surgical Unit on the 11th floor last week.

Episcopal Health Services (EHS) officials and hospital staff gathered on Thursday, June 6, to mark the official opening of the fully-renovated unit in Tower 11 and look back on the impact that the fire has had on the hospital and surrounding communities over the last two

From One King to Another - The Wave

Former Congressman Peter T. King, who represented Long Island in Congress from 1993 to 2001, announced that he will officially endorse Belle Harbor resident Paul King for Congress on Thursday, June 20, during a “King Day” event at the Belle Harbor Yacht Club.

Paul King, who currently serves as president of the Belle Harbor Property Owners Association and as a member of Community Board 14, is running against Democratic incumbent Gregory Meeks in New York’s 5th Congressional District in what will

“The Crown Jewel of Broad Channel” - The Wave

After years of sitting vacant, the castle-like building that was once home to Wharton’s Apothecary in Broad Channel might finally see some action in the near future.

Last month, Revived Commercial, a division of Revived Residential, listed the building with a $1.3 million price tag, sparking some reactions on social media ranging from nostalgia to optimism over what could find its way into the space now that it’s up for sale.

However, according to Greg Valvo, one of the real estate brokers sel

Bladee’s Deep Chills on “Cold Visions”

It’s been ten years since Bladee dropped his first mixtape, “Gluee,” and the illustrious Swedish rapper, known for his established presence in the Drain Gang collective, has a lot to contemplate. He does so on his newest full-length effort, Cold Visions, which dropped on April 24 — to nearly immediate critical acclaim.

Through that line, he looks down at the scene’s progression as the choppy, bass-boosted beat drops in “FUN FACT,” but the game isn’t the only thing that’s changed. Bladee has mas

Don’t Sleep on Brett Altman and His New Single: “Eye Mask”

Even though he didn’t start singing publicly until the age of 20, Brett Altman has always been a performer. His first stage was his childhood bedroom in New Jersey — mimicking the Frank Sinatra crooner tunes he used to hear his dad belt out around the house and the Broadway shows he frequented in Manhattan. In his first two years after his public debut, he skyrocketed from serenading his summer camp peers during “Rock and Roll Day” to playing for a crowd of 17,000 at his alma mater Penn State’s

Alliway Archives: Gauntlet Hair by Gauntlet Hair

The fall of 2021 was an electric time in my life. I lived in a room with one skylight and put highlights in my hair. I worked 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. three days a week and scoured to the bars of New Paltz after — staying out to talk to creatures of the night and Greek Life associates. I had club meetings every day and barely made it to my 9 a.m.s due to extreme cases of night owlness. I was immersed in noise constantly, reflecting through the types of music I blasted in that echoey attic lair, looking

Goose Room Recording Studio: Breathing Life into Staten Island

Staten Island’s New Dorp Plaza North is a quiet, commercial street, minus the occasional train whirring through the tracks that separate it from its southern counterpart. It is lined with hair salons, restaurants and dance companies, but sandwiched in between these complexes lies Goose Room — the recording studio looking to bring some noise back into the forgotten borough.

Founded by local musician Rain Johannes in 2022, Goose Room is Staten Island’s newest recording studio. Feeling like the cu

"We're Trying to Make Art:" Bird Week on New Album "To Live Without"

The four members of Purchase-based indie rock group Bird Week came to me in four separate Zoom blocks — the members dispersed in different locations across New York State during the time we had blocked off to chat. “It's very rare that all four of us are in the same place,” vocalist and guitarist Justin Hatch reflects. Calling themselves a “soldier without a nation,” the band doesn’t have a real, concrete hometown — rarely feeling like locals anywhere, with the situational exception of the colle

Three Co-hosts of Fast Growing Tik Tok Music Trivia Show Find Their Groove in Astor Place

That’s the sign that the three co-hosts of a music trivia show called “Trackstar*” – two brothers, Jack and Kieran Coyne and a friend Henry Kornaros–erect in the unlikeliest of settings in Astor Place to film their Tik Tok music trivia show.

The show featuring quiz challenges to random participants has attracted nearly 200,000 followers on Tik Tok and has even begun generating some buzz among a small group of celebrity musicians who have dropped by to play, including AJR, Olivia Rodrigo and Ed

O VSCO Girl, Where Art Thou?

It was late last year when I decided to redownload VSCO again. I was in the middle of my nightly Instagram-stalking session when I saw a vague acquaintance still had her profile linked in her bio. Rolling my eyes, I thought to myself, why doesn’t she just move on like everyone else and make a photodump account on here?

I clicked the link anyway and trudged my way through this girl’s hodge-podge of sunsets, fancy dinners and subtle boyfriend soft launches, I remembered the days in 2018 where 17-

Rosso Rosso are Pushing the Limits of Punk Rock With Their Latest Single 'Mamatomy'

Punk music is, and has always been, multi-dimensional. Cycling through several eras and waves, the genre’s blanket expands multitudes, and is constantly reinventing itself time and time again. Brooklyn-based punk newbies Rosso Rosso don’t want to tie themselves down to one type of sound too early, and their new single “Mamatomy” proves they’re already eager to push the limits of their band.

While attending college in Western Massachusetts, vocalist Conor Newton met drummer Kieran Scannell and b

“Female Centric Faber:” Bringing Unity Through Art on Staten Island —

The soundscape of Faber Park on the first day of October wasn’t necessarily out of the ordinary for a sunny Sunday afternoon. The wheels of skaters that flock to the Staten Island skatepark rolled up and down the concrete grooves, while storage boats passed under the Bayonne Bridge, visible from the benches facing the waterfront. It wasn’t until, like a strike of lightning, the first chords of NYC-based rock band Superfuture’s electric guitars broke the stagnant fall air, jolting excitement into

Lip Critic’s Danny Eberle on his Strong DIY Roots

Drummer Danny Eberle has always been the epicenter of the madness. Whether it was with his experimental rock band Lip Critic on the SUNY Purchase campus, or his rock band On Pink at venues across upstate New York, his arms were sure to blur with intense motion as he churned out a sweaty set for a basement filled with thrashing college kids baking in the body heat. He stayed wired into his craft as his fast-paced hits and rapid-fire movements clashed against the loud guitars — a perfect backgroun

Casii Stephan - "Wine & Gold"

On her newest single “Wine & Gold,” Casii Stephan is falling into a passionate, all-

encompassing love. The soul-rock singer-songwriter from Minnesota is no stranger to slow-

burns, but this heartfelt track is a breakthrough after tales of fear and heartbreak —

documenting her journey towards a happy, hopeful relationship.

Stephan is assertive and brave, using her powerful lyricism to address uncomfortable

topics — such as sexism and toxic relationships — with an underlying tone of positi

The Centripetal Force of Richard Rojas

It’s been over two years since Rojas’ first petition to restore Ben Soto went live, but the issue is over a decade long. The fight is long and stressful, as Rojas sees funding going into commercial and tourism-centered projects on the Island and the skatepark only gets neglected further. Counting Ben Soto, and a more up-kept park in the Port Richmond neighborhood — Faber Park, there are currently only two outdoor skateparks on Staten Island. In Brooklyn alone, there are 20 skateparks that, accor

A Girl Scout's Journey to the Gold

Many young women across the United States see becoming a Girl Scout as a fun and productive pastime that gives them valuable skills and unforgettable experiences. For Gardiner resident Andie Psilopoulos, she turned it into a life-changing opportunity through her Gold Award project that will help her change the world long after she has left her troop.

Andie has been involved in Girl Scouts since kindergarten, starting as a Daisy, the first level of the program. Her mother, Karen, founded her tro

Hudson Valley Wine Market: New Location, Same Philosophies

Buying wine from a large chain liquor store can feel a bit intimidating. Shelves upon shelves of options loom above you, and you have no idea what would be the best drink option to bring to the dinner party you were invited to. With warm weather just around the corner, spring parties and get-togethers await — and Hudson Valley Wine Market wants Gardiner wine-sippers to know that they’re in good hands. The market, now located at 4 Dusinberre Rd. (formerly Majestic’s Hardware) moved from its 119 M

Art Thief Will Steal Your Heart: Chatting with Bassist Sam Smith

Sam Smith is strumming his bass as he adjusts his phone’s camera. He’s laughing and apologizing, cracking jokes about how he’s never used Zoom on anything but his laptop before. He’s in his Bed-Stuy apartment and I’m in New Paltz, but the distance between us and choppiness of the video call didn’t matter to me. After I saw his band Art Thief at Snug’s that past weekend, I knew I had to speak to the mastermind of the madness no matter what it took.

Unlike his celebrity name-twin, Smith isn’t

Kale Tells All: How The Jam Rockers are Climbing to the Top of the Scene

Standing in the middle of a deli, Jack Salzman was eyeing down a kale salad on one of the prepackaged food shelves. He and his fellow bandmate, Brendan Bartow, decided to stop in this nondescript bodega for some pre-gig food as they were struggling to come up with a quirky name for their new musical project. “Shark,” “Bagel,” “Sandwich” … nothing was sticking. But as he was staring at the leafy greens, inspiration hit: New Paltz’s newest jam-band sensation, Kale, was soon to be born, as fresh as
